Toronto-based indie collective Broken Social Scene celebrate the 20th anniversary of their breakout album You Forgot It In People with a special Record Store Day edition. This one-time limited pressing of 5,000 copies on cobalt blue coloured vinyl features the original album cover (on vinyl for the first time), archival photos, a pull-out concert poster, and new liner notes. With timeless indie classics like "Lover's Spit" and "Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl" the album, featuring contributions from Feist, and members of Metric, Stars, and Do Make Say Think, is a must-own for every collector.

Just did a side by side with an early Canadian repress (I suspect closer to a 2003 repress). This new repress is far more flat, it plays quiet (although still an occasional pop and crackle can be heard). The album overall plays far more uniformed and leveled. This can be a good thing to some but it really lacks something when compared to the earlier copy. The earlier Canadian press has pop and crackle throughout (maybe also due to age), but the master is dynamic and punchy. The kickoff to KC Accidental is huge! The bass on Stars And Sons has a thick growl. Compared to the new 2023 RSD pressing, the earlier pressing has bigger ebbs and flows and a larger soundstage - though not the most silent spin, it does come out with all guns blazing. And now I have to reconsider - do I keep my earlier more poppy and crackling copy that is mastered with way more energy and dynamics or do I keep the new 2023 repress that plays far quieter overall?
